Keeping Busy in Eynsford

Steeped in history, a walk through Eynsford is like stepping back in time as you take in the many listed buildings.

Enysford Castle is a rare example of an early Norman enclosure castle, which was abandoned in 1312. Unlike most Norman castles, Eynsford was protected by an extensive curtain wall, parts of which survive to full height today.

Other historical sights within easy reach of Enysford include the Lullingstone Roman Villa, The Home of Charles Darwin Down House, and the stunning Eltham Palace.

Lullingstone Castle and Garden World is just a three minute drive from The Plough Inn. One of the oldest family estates in England, Lullingstone Castle dates back to the time of Doomsday. As well as the historic castle, the World Garden features a garden in the shape of the world containing over 8,000 unusual plants, as well as the Hot & Spikey Cactus House and a National Collection of Eucalypts.

For families, the Eagle Heights Bird and Wildlife Sanctuary and Lullingstone Country Park are great ways to spend the day. There’s also a children’s playground in the village’s Harrow Meadow. Once you’ve finished exploring, pop into The Plough Inn to relax, unwind, and refuel in stylish surroundings.
